The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is looking to pilot the automated fare collection carousels at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) next month in a bid to offer more payment methods, Transportation Secretary Vivencio “Vince” Dizon said Monday.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is aiming to launch automated fare collection carousels at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) next month to provide more payment options, announced Transportation Secretary Vivencio “Vince” Dizon on Monday.

During the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) Infrastructure Forum in Makati City, Dizon mentioned that the AFCs will enable MRT customers to pay by simply tapping their debit and credit cards at the MRT3 counters.

Dizon emphasized that this will be an initial pilot project scheduled for July, introducing modern carousels for the convenience of commuters. The rollout is expected by the third week of the month.

In May, cashless payments, including GCash, were introduced as an option at the MRT3, which operates along EDSA from North Avenue to Taft Avenue.
