The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has decided to move the voter registration period for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) from July to late October this year.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia announced that the voter registration, initially scheduled from July 1 to 11, will now take place in the last week of October after the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections and will run until July 2026.

Garcia emphasized that the voter registration period needed more time as 11 days were insufficient. To avoid confusion among Bangsamoro voters, the registration will resume after the BPE in October.

He also mentioned that preparations for the BSKE on Dec. 1 will continue until a law is signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. postponing the elections.

The proposed law seeks to extend the term of incumbent barangay and SK officials to four years, compared to the current three-year term. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have ratified the bill last week.

Comelec will proceed with procurement activities under certain conditions as they await further developments.
