SINGAPORE: A police officer who was convicted of more corruption charges has been sentenced to 34 months' jail in addition to his original jail term of more

Recently, a police officer in Singapore was sentenced to an additional 34 months in jail on top of his original six-year sentence for corruption charges. Station Inspector Poo Tze Chiang, 47, was also fined S$36,000 (US$26,700) for his actions.

In August 2024, Poo was initially sentenced to 78 months in jail for accepting bribes to shield individuals from police action. Despite appealing this conviction, the High Court dismissed his appeal in April of the following year.

Poo will now serve a total of eight years and two months in jail, with his latest conviction stemming from accepting S$36,000 in bribes from Chen Guangyun to assist with immigration offenses. Chen's sentencing is scheduled for July 15.

Chen, a Chinese national, illegally entered Singapore in 2014 and was later convicted of overstaying and reckless harboring. After being deported and banned from reentering Singapore, Chen returned by boat in 2017 and sought Poo's help in exchange for money.

Despite Chen's deportation in 2020, Poo continued to offer assistance. Chen eventually reported the bribes to the authorities, leading to Poo's conviction on four counts of graft. An additional count of cheating Chen was also considered during sentencing.
