Rebel Wolves, a Polish studio, recently unveiled over 20 minutes of gameplay footage from their upcoming vampire-themed open-world RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker. This preview provides the most extensive look at the game so far.
The Blood of Dawnwalker was first announced by Rebel Wolves in January 2025, promising an open-world RPG with monster hunting and morally gray choices. Developed by former CD Projekt Red veterans, the game has drawn comparisons to The Witcher and is set for a 2026 release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
During a recent event on June 21, Rebel Wolves showcased more than 21 minutes of gameplay footage, focusing on a mid-game quest from a pre-beta version of the game. Players follow protagonist Coen as he investigates a rumor about a hidden weapon in the crypts of an old cathedral.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Showcases Intense ARPG Combat System
Before reaching the cathedral, Coen engages in combat with bandits, demonstrating the game's intricate swordplay mechanics. Players are encouraged to observe enemy movements and react accordingly, using special abilities like Burning Blood and Artery Attack. Abilities can be selected during combat, pausing the game similar to Dragon Age.
Time in The Blood of Dawnwalker Is a Resource, Not a Racing Clock
The game's design emphasizes a 'narrative sandbox' approach, where players are given time to pursue various activities on their journey to save their family. Time is treated as a resource rather than a strict deadline, allowing for unique playthroughs. Certain actions may advance time, while exploration does not.
The Blood of Dawnwalker's Vampirism Is Both a Blessing and a Curse
As Coen transforms into a vampire at night, he gains new traversal abilities but must manage his health as a hunger meter. Players can choose to feed on NPCs, render them unconscious, or avoid harming humans altogether. Failing to feed may lead to losing control. Quest outcomes vary based on choices made as a human or vampire.
