The WECHU has urged organizers of summer activities to know what to do if measles shows up uninvited.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) is advising organizers of summer activities to be prepared in case of a measles outbreak.

As the school year in Windsor-Essex is nearing its end, summer camp operators and day camp coordinators are being urged to take precautions to prevent measles and handle any potential cases.

Dr. Mehdi Aloosh, the Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex, emphasized the importance of protecting all participants through vaccination and having a plan in place to respond to any suspected cases.

Organizers are encouraged to provide their contact information to the health unit for easy notification in case of a reported case, minimizing disruptions to activities.

Prior to opening their camps, coordinators are advised to consult with the health unit for guidance on identifying symptoms, reporting requirements, infection prevention, and messaging to promote the availability of vaccination records for campers and staff.

The health unit stresses the significance of vaccination as the most effective defense against measles, recommending two doses of the MMR vaccine.
