Australia's most decorated living soldier, Ben Roberts-Smith, is making a final attempt to reverse the damning findings that he was involved in war crimes during his time in Afghanistan. The former Special Air Service corporal has submitted an application for special leave to appeal in the High Court following a Federal Court defamation ruling that implicated him in the deaths of four Afghan prisoners.
Roberts-Smith's request for appeal was filed on Monday, although it has not yet been officially accepted. This legal battle against The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald has been ongoing for eight years.
