A group of telecommunications companies on Monday urged President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to veto the Konektadong Pinoy Bill, citing national security issues.

A coalition of telecommunications firms has urged President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. to reject the Konektadong Pinoy Bill, citing concerns over national security.

Normandy Baldovino Jr., the president of the Philippine Association of Private Telecommunications Companies (PAPTELCO), expressed that the current bill poses national security risks and lacks safeguards for smaller service providers catering to rural areas.

PAPTELCO raised alarm that the legislation would permit any company to establish cable landing stations and international gateway facilities in the Philippines without the need for a legislative franchise.

Baldovino cautioned that while the Konektadong Pinoy Bill has noble intentions, it could have unintended consequences similar to the legalization of Philippine Offshore Gaming Corporations (POGO) in the past.

Emphasizing the importance of amending the bill to ensure the integrity of its implementing rules and regulations, Baldovino stressed the need to prioritize national security.

President Marcos has fast-tracked the approval of Senate Bill 2699, also known as the Konektadong Pinoy Bill, which aims to enhance internet connectivity accessibility and affordability for all Filipinos.

The Senate and House of Representatives endorsed the bill on April 9, 2025, with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) advocating for its passage to promote transparency and open access in the country's data transmission sector.
