The recent arrest of Assistant Director General of Police (ADGP) HM Jayaram in Tamil Nadu has shed light on a kidnapping case where his vehicle was reportedly used to drop off an abducted boy. The Madras High Court issued orders for his arrest, following which the police took action. The court also directed KV Kuppam MLA "Poovai" Jagan Moorthy to cooperate with the investigation.

Justice P Velmurugan emphasized the importance of upholding the law, stating that no one, regardless of their position, should be exempt from legal consequences. This development occurred during a hearing related to an anticipatory bail plea filed by MLA Moorthy, who was concerned about being arrested in connection with the kidnapping.

The case originated from a complaint filed by the mother of the abducted boy, Lakshmi. She claimed that her elder son had married without the family's approval, prompting the girl's relatives and accomplices to search for him at their residence. Unable to locate him, they resorted to kidnapping Lakshmi's younger son, who was later found injured near a hotel. Allegations suggest that the boy was dropped off in ADGP Jayaram's official vehicle.

Accusations have also been made against MLA Moorthy for his involvement in the incident. The Additional Public Prosecutor informed the court that while no charges had been filed against the ADGP yet, authorities wanted to question the legislator first. The court condemned Moorthy's actions, criticizing him for impeding the investigation and misusing his influence.

Justice Velmurugan admonished the MLA for obstructing the inquiry and urged him to set a better example for the public. The court emphasized the need for individuals to abide by the law and refrain from taking matters into their own hands. The Madras High Court's response underscores the importance of upholding legal standards and ensuring accountability, regardless of one's social or political standing.
