Drogheda United's expulsion from European football has been officially confirmed after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) rejected their appeal. The club expressed 'heartbreak and disbelief' in response to the decision.
The League of Ireland team has made history as the first club to be barred from participating in European competitions due to UEFA regulations on multiclub ownership. Trivela, the owners of Drogheda United, acquired a majority stake in Danish club Silkeborg last winter. When Silkeborg qualified for the Europa Conference League, it led to complications for Drogheda United.
