Recent days have seen a surge in electronic interference with commercial ship navigation systems around the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Gulf, affecting vessels in the region, according to naval forces.

On Monday, Iranian missiles targeted major Israeli cities, prompting Israel's prime minister to announce efforts to eliminate threats from Iran's nuclear and missile facilities. Civilian casualties have risen on both sides after four days of conflict.

Iran has previously threatened to close the critical Strait of Hormuz in response to Western pressure, a move that could impact global trade and oil prices.

The US-led Combined Maritime Force's JMIC information centre has reported ongoing electronic interference near the Port of Bandar Abbas in Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, and other areas in the Arabian Gulf. This disruption is hindering vessels' ability to transmit accurate positional data via automated identification systems (AIS), leading to operational and navigational challenges for maritime traffic.
