Texan blues guitar legend Jimmie Vaughan has turned his boyhood dreams into reality with a garage full of stunning custom cars, including a beautifully customized 1961 Cadillac. Alongside his late brother Stevie Ray, Jimmie made a name for himself in the blues music scene, and continues to do so with his solo career. Street Machine recently caught up with him to discuss his passion for modified automobiles and his impressive collection.
When asked about the cars in his garage, Jimmie mentioned his '51 Chevy Fleetline, a '63 Buick Riviera, and the '61 Cadillac. He emphasized his love for these cars and his reluctance to sell them to avoid seeing them painted in odd colors by new owners.
Jimmie shared that he drives his cars regularly, with the Cadillac being the newest addition to his collection. After being displayed at the Petersen Auto Museum in California, he plans to take it out for a spin soon.
Reflecting on his childhood dreams of owning custom cars, Jimmie expressed his joy in fulfilling that dream. He highlighted his '51 Chevy as his favorite, given that it was his first custom car and has sentimental value.
Named after one of his songs, 'Ironic Twist,' the Cadillac boasts a 526ci V8 engine and a unique body design with subtle modifications. Jimmie worked closely on the design and collaborated with Gary Howard for the bodywork and paint job.
In addition to the Cadillac, Jimmie mentioned his plans for a 1954 Ford Victoria project and his daily driver, an SS 454 Camaro. He expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the Americruise in the future.
The highlight of the Cadillac build is the Latham Axial Flow supercharger, a powerful accessory that adds horsepower to the vehicle. Originally designed for industrial fluid pumps, the Latham supercharger is a key feature of the Cadillac's performance.
With subtle body modifications like a chopped roofline, pancaked bonnet, shaved door handles, and extended boot lip, the Cadillac showcases meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Overall, Jimmie Vaughan's '61 Cadillac is a true masterpiece, reflecting his passion for custom cars and dedication to preserving automotive history.
