President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. issued a directive on Monday for relevant government agencies to provide immediate assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) impacted by the recent missile strikes between Israel and Iran.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stated, "The President instructed the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to expedite aid to our fellow countrymen. No one is to be left behind. That is the President's mandate."
Castro emphasized that the DMW and OWWA were tasked with ensuring the safety and well-being of OFWs affected by the tensions in the Middle East. The agencies are on high alert and ready to provide assistance to Filipinos in Israel and Iran. The DFA has also prepared a contingency plan in case repatriation from Iran becomes necessary.
Additionally, the Philippine government has dispatched a team to Israel to oversee the safety of OFWs. According to a "Balitanghali" report, one of the four injured Filipinos is currently in critical condition following the missile attacks by Iran in Israel. Two have been discharged from the hospital, while the remaining individual is still recovering. Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac mentioned that the government is providing shelter to 14 Filipinos in Rehovot.
As of now, there have been no reports of Filipinos affected by the missile strikes in Iran.
