Paul Murphy has been detained again in Egypt, according to his family

Irish politician Paul Murphy has once again been detained in Egypt, as reported by his family.

According to reports, the People Before Profit TD visited a Cairo police station to retrieve his phone, following advice from the Irish Embassy, but has been prevented from leaving.

Additional participants in the Global March to Gaza have also allegedly been detained.

Mr. Murphy's partner, Jess Spear, is calling on Tánaiste Simon Harris to ensure the release of all individuals involved and the return of their passports.

A statement released on behalf of Mr. Murphy stated: 'I have been detained in the Abdeen police station in Cairo.'

Upon his arrival at the police station, officials reportedly had Mr. Murphy speak with the secret police and then left him in a room with an interpreter.

They have indicated that they are searching for his phone and have prevented him from leaving the premises.

Ms. Spear emphasized that the Tánaiste 'must ensure that Paul and all the Global March to Gaza participants are released, have their passports returned, and are allowed to continue their humanitarian mission to deliver aid to the people of Gaza'.
