Oakley Meta Glasses Launch Teased for Friday

Oakley Meta smart glasses seem to be launching on Friday, as the two companies are both teasing a joint June 20 launch.

Oakley and Meta are hinting at a joint launch happening this Friday. A new Instagram page named 'Oakley | Meta' shared a video in collaboration with the official Meta and Oakley pages, teasing the upcoming June 20 launch. The video has even been reposted by Mark Zuckerberg.

The branding of this new page closely resembles the 'Ray-Ban | Meta' branding used for the current Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. This strongly indicates that Meta's partnership with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica is expanding to include Oakley as well.

Back in January, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had already reported on this development. While the Ray-Ban Meta glasses feature a camera on a temple and target a broad consumer base, the Oakley Meta glasses will have the camera positioned in the center and are specifically designed for 'cyclists and other athletes,' as Gurman noted previously.

The Ray-Ban Meta glasses have been a huge success. In February, EssilorLuxottica announced that they had sold over 2 million units and projected an annual production capacity increase to 10 million by the end of 2026.

During Google's I/O event in May, it was revealed that they are collaborating with EssilorLuxottica's competitors such as Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to develop their own smart glasses. Additionally, Google plans to work with Kering Eyewear in the future.

On the other hand, Gurman has also reported that Apple is gearing up to launch its own version of smart glasses by late 2026.

Stay tuned this Friday as we closely monitor Meta and EssilorLuxottica to bring you all the details about the Oakley Meta glasses once they are officially unveiled.
