Individuals in Cagayan turned over more than 47 kilograms of shabu valued at P321,980,000 in three separate incidents, as reported by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Monday.

The PDEA disclosed that two fishermen discovered 45.6 kilograms of suspected shabu off the coast of Brgy. Centro 6, Claveria, Cagayan on June 15. The shabu was hidden inside 50 plastic packs of gold teabags, estimated to be worth P310,080,000.

Additionally, a seaborne patrol operation led to the seizure of one kilogram of floating shabu valued at P6.8 million in the waters off Sitio Narvacan, Brgy. Dilam in Calayan, Cagayan on June 13.

On the same day, a fisherman and a barangay kagawad turned over one pack of floating shabu weighing 750 grams, worth P5.1 million, at Sitio Mingay, Bry. San Juan in Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan.

The recovered illegal drugs were handed over to the PDEA RO II Laboratory Office for further examination. Authorities are currently investigating the source and intended recipient of the floating shabu.

According to a statement by the PDEA, surveillance and maritime patrols in Northern Luzon are being intensified to prevent the smuggling of illegal drugs through the country's coastlines.

The individuals who found the floating shabu were commended by the authorities. PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez praised the fishermen for their integrity, stating that they serve as an inspiration for others to do the same.
