Health officials in Peterborough are alerting the public about a new case of measles that has been identified. This case involves a vaccinated resident who had contact with the initial case reported last week.

The Peterborough Public Health Unit is actively working to pinpoint public locations where exposure may have occurred and to identify individuals who may have been affected. The current known exposure locations include:

  • Dairy Queen
    828 Chemong Rd.
    Peterborough, ON K9H 5Z7
    June 15th 4:00pm-6:10pm
    Watch for symptoms until July 6th
  • The Back40 Smoke House
    289 George St. N #287
    Peterborough, ON K9J 3H3
    June 15th 6:00pm-9:30pm
    Watch for symptoms until July 6th

If you suspect that you may have been exposed at any of the specified dates and locations, follow these steps:

  1. Check your vaccination record to ensure that you and your household members have received two doses of the measles vaccine (MMR or MMRV). Having two doses makes you immune.
  2. If you are unsure about your vaccination status or have not received two doses, contact Peterborough Public Health at 705-743-1000.
  3. Assess your vulnerability and the need for post-exposure care. If you are immunocompromised, unvaccinated, or pregnant, contact PPH at 705-743-1000 to determine if you require post-exposure care.
  4. Monitor yourself for symptoms and stay at home if you develop any. Contact PPH at 705-743-1000 and inform them if you suspect you have measles. Always call ahead before visiting a clinic, emergency department, or healthcare facility if you have been exposed or are experiencing symptoms.
