Following the murder of teacher Ashling Murphy in 2022, two brothers of convicted murderer Jozef Puska, along with their wives, have been convicted of charges related to their actions in the aftermath of the crime.
Marek Puska and Lubomir Puska Jr were found guilty of withholding information that could have assisted in their brother's prosecution. Their wives, Jozefina Grundzova and Viera Gaziova, were convicted of burning Puska's clothes to hinder his prosecution.
Jozef Puska's wife, Lucia Istokova, admitted to withholding crucial information just before the trial began, including details about Puska's injuries, his confession to the crime, and ownership of a bicycle of interest to the authorities.
All five individuals have been released on bail until the sentencing date, set to be determined on 7 July.
During the trial, Ms Murphy's family members were present in court to witness the proceedings. Ms Murphy was tragically killed by Jozef Puska in a random attack near her home in Tullamore, Co Offaly.
Following the murder, Puska returned home where his brothers and their families resided. Marek Puska and Lubomir Puska Jr were accused of withholding information about the crime, while their wives were found guilty of burning evidence to impede the investigation.
The jury unanimously found the brothers guilty, while Grundzova and Gaziova were convicted by majority verdicts. The prosecution argued that their actions were not justified, as protecting Puska or the family was not a valid excuse.
