In 2020, Deepika Padukone made a controversial appearance at Jawaharlal Nehru University just before the release of her film Chhapaak, sparking calls for a ban on the movie. Director Vivek Agnihotri recently shared his views on this incident, stating that he believes the actor had no knowledge of the political situation at JNU and was likely there for promotional purposes.

What Vivek Agnihotri Said

During an interview, Vivek mentioned that Deepika was unaware of where she was going and the politics of the place. He suggested that her PR team may have advised her to attend the event as a promotional opportunity for her film, which had political themes. He emphasized that if she had known the implications, she probably would not have gone.

He also warned about the risks of getting involved in sensitive political issues, stating that it can have consequences on one's career. Vivek acknowledged Deepika's intelligence and suggested that her PR team may have made a mistake in guiding her to the event.

Deepika Padukone's recent projects include the film Kalki 2898 AD. She made headlines for stepping away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to disagreements over working hours.

Vivek Agnihotri's upcoming film, The Bengal Files, delves into a lesser-known aspect of Indian history and is set to release on 5 September.
