Irish goods exports declined in April as President Trump's tariffs continued to have a significant impact.

In April, Irish goods exports saw a significant decline due to the ongoing impact of President Trump's tariffs on Ireland's trade. Businesses had rushed to sell goods to the US in the first quarter of the year to avoid the tariffs, resulting in record sales of £37bn (£31.5bn) in March. However, in April, exports dropped to £22bn (£19bn), with a 62% decline in exports to the US from almost €26bn (£22bn) to just under €10bn (£8.5bn).

Despite the decline, overall exports and exports to the US were still higher in April compared to the same period last year. Trump's tariffs, part of his America First economic policy, included a minimum 10% tariff on most countries in April, with additional proposed duties for some trading partners, such as a 20% tariff on the EU. Although the reciprocal measures were later suspended, the US remains Ireland's largest export market, with pharmaceuticals being the most crucial sector.

The fluctuations in exports are impacting Ireland's economic data, highlighting the ongoing effects of the tariffs on the country's trade.
