Once a dowdy EV, the Nissan Leaf is now a sleek and slippery hyper-miler you might actually want to buy

The latest Nissan Leaf model has been revealed with a sleek and modern SUV styling that is sure to catch the eye of potential buyers. The interior features touch-sensitive controls for the air-conditioning, a volume knob, track-seek buttons, and a shortcut for parking cameras. High-spec models will also come with a Bose sound system, including a speaker that relays navigation and warning sounds to the driver.

Boot space and practicality

The rear seats offer ample space with good knee and legroom. Despite the sloping roofline, there is plenty of headroom, and a flat floor ensures decent foot room. Nissan will offer a glass roof option on higher-spec models, providing changeable glass to block sunlight and increase rear headroom.

There is generous cabin space with good storage for small items and a large open area under the dashboard. The 437-litre boot is 50 litres larger than the previous model, although more upright competitors may offer better versatility for loading bulky items.

Specifications and prices

The new Leaf will be available in four trim levels: Engage, Engage+, Advance, and Evolve. Detailed features and pricing will be announced closer to the launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. Nissan aims to offer competitive standard equipment and pricing compared to other electric vehicles on the market.

While the Nissan Leaf was an early pioneer in the EV market, it struggled to maintain its lead against newer European, Korean, and Chinese competitors. However, this latest generation demonstrates Nissan's commitment to reclaiming its position as a top contender in the electric vehicle segment.
