Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff says Red Bull's protest against George Russell at the Canadian Grand Prix was "petty" and "embarrassing".

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff criticized Red Bull's protest against George Russell at the Canadian Grand Prix, calling it 'petty' and 'embarrassing'. Russell secured Mercedes' first win of the season, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen as the race ended under the safety car due to an incident involving Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Red Bull filed a protest alleging that Russell drove erratically behind the safety car and displayed unsportsmanlike behavior. However, the stewards rejected the protest, prompting Wolff to express his dissatisfaction with Red Bull's actions.

Wolff described Red Bull's protest as 'petty' and 'small', criticizing the team for taking two hours to launch the complaint. He emphasized that racing outcomes should be decided on the track and not through such actions.

Christian Horner, Red Bull's team principal, defended the decision to protest, stating that it was within the team's rights to do so. He mentioned that they believed something was amiss and chose to bring it to the stewards' attention.

This incident is not the first time Red Bull and Mercedes have clashed this season. Earlier at the Spanish Grand Prix, there was a collision between Max Verstappen and George Russell, with Verstappen attributing it to frustration.
