Tinder's new Double Date feature enables users to pair with friends and match with other duos, promoting a social approach to dating. Available in the US, it launches globally in July, appealing particularly to Gen Z users seeking collaborative experiences.

Tinder has recently launched a new feature called Double Date, which allows users to team up with a friend and match with other duos on the platform. Currently available in the US and select international markets, the feature is set to go global in July.

The aim of Double Date is to provide a more social and relaxed way of approaching online dating, according to the company. This feature builds on previous tools like Matchmaker and Share My Date, which enabled friends and family to participate in a user's dating journey, by introducing a group dynamic to the traditional one-on-one setup.

How the Feature Works

Users can access Double Date by tapping on an icon in the main card stack and selecting up to three friends to team up with. They can then swipe through other pairs and match if both parties are interested in each other's group. Once a match is made, a group chat opens up to facilitate conversations and potential meetups.

Tinder has reported that Double Date saw significant engagement during its testing phase, especially among Gen Z users. Nearly 90% of profiles interacting with the feature belonged to individuals under the age of 29. This age group already makes up more than half of Tinder's global user base and tends to prefer collaborative and less formal dating experiences.

Early data indicates that Double Date is driving more interaction on the platform. Women using the feature during testing were reportedly three times more likely to like a pair than individual profiles. Moreover, users engaged in Double Date chats sent 35% more messages on average compared to standard one-on-one conversations. The feature also led to a slight increase in new and returning users, with almost 15% of participants being either new to the platform or recently reactivated.
