Authorities are currently investigating a reported break-in at the home where Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were tragically killed over the weekend, police confirmed on Wednesday.

The police were notified about the break-in at 8 a.m. at the residence that was the scene of the fatal shooting, which authorities believe was politically motivated, according to a statement from the Brooklyn Park Police Department.

Before being boarded up on Sunday morning, investigators had already processed the home as a crime scene, with a police trailer camera placed in front, as mentioned in a statement released by the police on Wednesday.

Police mentioned that Hortman's family had taken valuable items from the home on Tuesday.

It was revealed on Wednesday morning that the plywood covering the rear window of the house had been pried off and the window was broken to gain entry.

Although the home seemed to have been searched by an unknown person, the family stated that they do not believe anything is missing, according to the police.
