Oleksandr Bondarchuk and Evhen Povarenkov were among the survivors of a devastating missile strike in Kyiv. Povarenkov, a warehouse worker, described the chaos and destruction caused by the attack, which destroyed 35 apartments and claimed the lives of 23 people. The strike was part of a massive wave of attacks by Russia, with over 440 drones and 32 missiles hitting the Ukrainian capital.
Residents like Povarenkov and Bondarchuk, a disabled man who couldn't reach a shelter, were left to navigate the burning cars and falling debris as they tried to escape. Povarenkov's mother suffered severe injuries and required surgery, while over 100 others were wounded in the city. Dr. Serhii Dubrov, an anesthesiologist, detailed the types of injuries seen at the hospital, ranging from lacerations to traumatic brain injuries.
The elderly and infirm were particularly vulnerable in these attacks, unable to seek safety in underground shelters. As rescue workers continue to search for bodies under the rubble, the residents of Kyiv are left to cope with the aftermath of the devastating strike.
