Ruth Jones and David Peet have announced their split 26 years after they tied the knot.

Ruth Jones and David Peet have decided to part ways after being together for 26 years. The couple, who got married in 1999, revealed that they separated 18 months ago. In a joint statement to PA news agency, they mentioned that they are now legally separated but remain good friends. Ruth is currently living in London, while David has moved to Canada and is in a new relationship.

They first met while working on a pilot episode of a BBC comedy show, when David was still married with three children. Ruth, 58, admitted that there was an overlap when their relationship began, acknowledging the pain caused by affairs.

Before meeting in person, Ruth and David had a phone conversation that sparked their connection. Ruth described David as a naturally funny man with a sharp mind and a dry Yorkshire wit.

David, a writer and producer, collaborated with Ruth on various projects. They co-founded Tidy Productions in 2008 and worked together on Ruth Jones' Sunday Brunch show on BBC Radio Wales. David also co-created the comedy-drama Stella, where Ruth played the lead role. Additionally, he contributed to several episodes of Gavin and Stacey, including the 2019 Christmas Special.

Ruth gained fame for her portrayal of Nessa in the popular BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey, which she co-created with James Corden. While Ruth became a stepmother to David's three children, she shared that she never had a strong desire to have children of her own. She expressed empathy for those struggling with fertility issues, emphasizing the joys of motherhood through step-parenting.
