Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was taken to the hospital Tuesday after she suffered an allergic reaction.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday following an allergic reaction. Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin confirmed the incident, stating that Noem is alert and recovering.

Noem was discharged later that evening after receiving medical care. The allergic reaction occurred while she was at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington.

Her scheduled press conference for Wednesday morning had to be postponed due to the incident. This hospitalization comes shortly after an altercation involving Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla at one of Noem's news conferences in Los Angeles.

During the altercation, Padilla was forcibly removed by FBI personnel and Secret Service agents. Video footage of the incident showed officers pushing Padilla and instructing him to comply with their commands.

In a Fox News interview, Noem inaccurately claimed that Padilla did not properly identify himself before being escorted out.
