Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to answer questions from international journalists on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. This event will include a roundtable session with senior news leaders from various international news agencies, including The Associated Press. Among the topics expected to be discussed is Moscow's stance on the Israel-Iran conflict, where Putin has offered to mediate following a conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump.

For decades, Russia has maintained a delicate balance in the Middle East, fostering warm relations with Israel while also building strong economic and military ties with Iran. This positioning allows Moscow to potentially act as a mediator to help resolve the conflict. Putin's remarks will also provide insights into his approach to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where Russia has escalated its aerial campaign and ground attacks along the extensive front line.

During the forum, Putin traditionally showcases Russia's economic progress and seeks foreign investments. However, Western business executives have been notably absent since Russia's military intervention in Ukraine in 2022. Instead, the event has seen participation from business leaders representing Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Aside from the forum, Putin is expected to hold meetings with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, and officials from China, South Africa, Bahrain, and the OPEC group of oil-producing countries. He will also participate in a panel discussion where he may make important policy statements.
