Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj are collaborating for the first time on the highly anticipated Tamil film, Coolie. The buzz around the movie is escalating with the frequent release of short teasers. Recently, there has been a lot of speculation about the international rights of the film, and Pinkvilla has obtained exclusive information about the overseas pricing of this action-packed thriller.
According to trade sources, Ayngaran International has acquired the international rights of Coolie for a whopping Rs 68 crore. This deal marks the second biggest in the history of Tamil cinema. The film would have set a new record if it hadn't clashed with War 2. This overseas theatrical deal is also the largest ever for Rajinikanth, surpassing his previous films like Jailer and 2.0.
For reference, the overseas rights of Jailer were sold for Rs 35 crore, while Coolie has fetched nearly double that amount, indicating the immense anticipation and demand for the movie among the audience. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film features a stellar cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Aamir Khan alongside Rajinikanth.
When it comes to the highest MG's acquired by filmmakers for Tamil films, the top spot is held by the final film of Thalapathy Vijay, Jana Nayagan (Rs 75 crore - Phars), followed by Coolie (Rs 68 crore - Ayngaran), Thug Life (Rs 63 crore – AP International), Leo (Rs 60 crore – Multiple Distributor), and G.O.A.T (Rs 53 crore – Phars).
Coolie is expected to be a game-changer in the Tamil Film Industry and is poised to break all existing records. The producers are in the final stages of closing other theatrical deals. The film, made on a budget of Rs 375 crore (including PnA), has already recovered a substantial amount from the sale of satellite, digital, and music rights.
