Toronto police have made a significant move in combating violence associated with the towing industry by arresting 20 individuals and laying more than 100 charges. The operation, known as Project Yankee, focused on criminal activities related to turf wars among competing tow truck operators. Collaborating with investigators from Durham, York, and the OPP, Toronto police conducted a thorough investigation over several months.
The arrested suspects are now facing a total of 52 charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, among others. According to police reports, approximately 15% of all shootings and firearm incidents in Toronto this year have been connected to the tow truck sector.
