Two porters from Jammu and Kashmir lost their lives, and three others, including a pilgrim, were injured in a landslide on the Kedarnath Dham trek route near Jungle Chatti in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, prompting a rescue operation by various response teams.

The landslide, which occurred near the Jangalchatti stream, resulted in falling debris sweeping several individuals into a deep gorge. The deceased were identified as Nitin Kumar and Chandrashekhar, both palanquin porters from Jammu and Kashmir.

The injured included Sandeep Kumar, Nitin Manhas, and Akash Chitariya, who were rescued and taken to Gaurikund Hospital for treatment. This tragic event has raised concerns about the safety of the Kedarnath pilgrimage route during the monsoon season.

Authorities have issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in various districts, with the India Meteorological Department predicting downpours in the coming days. Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms have been reported across Uttarakhand, with warnings in place for isolated heavy rainfall in specific regions.

Uttarakhand has experienced varying levels of rainfall, with districts like Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, and Nainital recording the highest averages. Thunderstorms and gusty winds have also been reported in certain areas, emphasizing the need for caution among residents and travelers.
