India News: NEW DELHI: In a major step towards improving voter services, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure .

In a significant development to enhance voter services, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has implemented a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure that Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) are delivered within 15 days of any updates in the electoral rolls. This includes newly registered voters or existing electors who have requested modifications in their details. Previously, it used to take slightly over a month for EPICs to reach the voters.

The new system, launched under the guidance of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, aims to improve service delivery by providing real-time tracking from card generation to delivery through the Department of Posts (DoP). Voters will also receive SMS updates at each stage of the process to keep them informed about their EPIC status.

As part of this initiative, the ECI has introduced a dedicated IT module on its new ECINet platform, which seamlessly integrates with the DoP's system via an Application Programme Interface (API). This will streamline workflow, eliminate the manual tracking process, and enhance data security. Officials highlight that this move is part of the Commission's broader efforts over the past four months to expedite and simplify electoral services for voters nationwide.
