Two firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and were taken to hospital.

On Thursday evening, a fire broke out in a flat near Holland Village, resulting in four individuals, including two firefighters, being taken to the hospital. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the incident at Block 5 Holland Close around 7.25pm.

Upon arrival, officers found a bedroom on the 23rd floor of the Housing and Development Board (HDB) block engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished using two water jets, but the rest of the unit suffered heat and smoke damage, according to SCDF.

Two occupants had already evacuated before SCDF's arrival and were treated for smoke inhalation at Singapore General Hospital. Additionally, two firefighters experienced heat exhaustion during the operation and were also hospitalized.

Approximately 100 residents from the block were evacuated by the police and SCDF. Videos shared with CNA depicted flames affecting the flat below, with the air-conditioner condenser catching fire. Several police cars were present at the scene.

A crowd gathered at a nearby football court, where a roll call was conducted to ensure all residents were safe. Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing, who represents Tanjong Pagar GRC, extended well wishes for the residents and firefighters' speedy recovery, emphasizing collaboration with various agencies to assist those impacted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
