Former US Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, has cautioned President Donald Trump about Pakistan's history of playing a double game. This warning comes after Trump's meeting with Pakistan's army chief Field Marshall Asim Munir at the White House. Khalilzad highlighted Pakistan's untrustworthiness and its support for terrorists despite receiving assistance from the US.
During the War on Terror, Pakistan took advantage of US aid while harboring individuals who targeted American forces. Khalilzad pointed out that Osama bin Laden was found in Pakistan after a decade-long search, emphasizing Pakistan's duplicitous actions.
Trump's recent engagement with Pakistan has strained relations with India, as he has taken actions that undermine Indian interests. In contrast, Trump seeks to improve ties with Pakistan, which deteriorated during the previous administration. Khalilzad also outlined Munir's objectives in dealing with Trump, including securing US investments, outsourcing protection in Afghanistan to the Pakistani military, and enhancing his own legitimacy.
