Ireland's Pint Prices Above European Average

The finding is in the latest average spending report from Europe’s central statistics office.

The Eurostat database reveals that tobacco and alcohol prices in Ireland are 205% of the EU average. Additionally, the country ranks second in average household expenditure and hotel/restaurant prices, trailing only Denmark in these categories. These statistics are part of the latest average spending report from Europe's central statistics office.

Darragh Cassidy, head of communications for Bonkers.ie, highlighted that the report solidifies Ireland's reputation as an expensive country. He attributed the high prices to factors like larger wages, higher taxes, state subsidies in areas like public transport and childcare, and elevated insurance and energy costs for businesses. Cassidy emphasized that due to the lack of state intervention in living costs and taxation, Ireland will always be a costly place to reside.

He suggested that the government should focus on reducing VAT rates, insurance expenses, and empowering price and consumer regulators to address this issue.
