Galway full-back Fintan Burke laments that they went away from their preferred style in the Leinster final but is confident they've learned from their mistakes ahead of the quarter-final

Galway full-back Fintan Burke reflects on the team's departure from their preferred style in the recent Leinster final but remains optimistic that they have learned from their mistakes as they prepare for the quarter-final.

Following their defeat against Kilkenny in the provincial decider, Galway's hurling community was disheartened, marking the fourth loss in the last six years, which was particularly demoralizing.

In a post-match interview, manager Micheál Donoghue acknowledged that Galway failed to execute their own style of play, allowing Kilkenny's Huw Lawlor to dominate the first half of the game.

Despite being thirteen points behind in the second half and seemingly heading towards a defeat, Galway managed to mount a comeback, narrowing the gap to four points before a goalkeeping error halted their progress.

Burke expressed frustration at how much of the game was played on Kilkenny's terms but found encouragement in the late resurgence, indicating that they were moving towards their desired style of play.

At the start of the season, it was clear that Galway was undergoing a transition period, with key players from previous years departing and a new generation being introduced to the team. While the transition may take time, Burke emphasized the team's desire for success without using it as an excuse.

Despite their struggles in the Leinster final, Galway has a strong track record in quarter-finals, winning five consecutive matches at this stage in recent years. Burke is confident that they can put their Leinster final disappointment behind them and focus on the upcoming clash against Tipperary.

The team is determined to learn from their mistakes, move forward, and continue to improve as they aim for success in the championship.
