K-Electric (KE), in partnership with law enforcement agencies, is actively combating electricity theft and defaulters. Recent operations in various areas of Orangi Town, such as Peerabad, Aligarh Market, Banaras Market, and Pathan Colony, led to the removal of 81 illegal connections, totaling 290 kilograms, from K-Electric's infrastructure. Additionally, 53 cases of electricity theft from meters were uncovered during these operations.

A spokesperson from KE revealed that these illicit connections were responsible for stealing over 157,000 units of electricity in a year. The outstanding dues from residents in the area amount to more than PKR 1.6 billion. It was emphasized that illegal connections not only violate safety standards but also cause damage to K-Electric's infrastructure, posing significant safety hazards to the public. These crackdowns aim to minimize losses resulting from electricity theft and enhance the safety of neighborhoods.

Presently, 70% of K-Electric's network is exempt from load-shedding. Nevertheless, measures are being taken to reduce losses in areas with high rates of theft and non-payment. Combating theft and ensuring prompt payments are crucial steps towards achieving a load-shed free zone.

K-Electric is urging its customers, community leaders, and local representatives to discourage electricity theft and ensure timely payment of bills. These actions are vital to guarantee a consistent supply of electricity throughout the city. While K-Electric remains dedicated to its anti-theft initiatives, it underscores the importance of recognizing electricity theft as a punishable offense, urging the government to prioritize this for the safe and sustainable provision of energy to all.
