Vancouver-based legaltech startup Walter is strengthening its partnership with Fasken, one of Canada's largest law firms, by launching a Joint Innovation Program aimed at creating the Walter AI Assistant - an agentic AI tool that aims to revolutionize the way legal professionals operate.

The collaboration will involve integrating the Walter AI Assistant directly into Microsoft Outlook and the Walter platform. This will automate tasks such as entity creation, data entry, compliance management, and document drafting. Additionally, the AI tool will be capable of addressing complex legal operations queries, all within the tools lawyers use on a daily basis.

Fasken's Emerging Technology and Venture Capital group is actively contributing to the development of the assistant, leveraging their practical experience to ensure that the AI aligns with the requirements of modern legal workflows.

Constantinos Ragas, Partner and Co-Leader of Fasken's Emerging Technology Group, expressed, 'By eliminating repetitive tasks, the Walter AI Assistant will enable us to concentrate on the value-added work that our clients anticipate from us.'

Ragas added, 'The legal industry is undergoing a significant transformation with the introduction of agentic AI capabilities. The Walter AI Assistant is not just another office software; it is a revolutionary tool that positions us at the forefront of this technological evolution.'

This announcement expands upon the existing partnership between Fasken and Walter, which was initially established in 2023. As Fasken continues to provide guidance to high-growth companies and venture capital funds, the firm recognizes AI as a valuable resource for reducing administrative burdens and focusing more on strategic legal tasks.

Walter's venture into AI technology is in line with the broader trend of legaltech innovation, as law firms aim to enhance efficiency, streamline operations, and elevate client service through intelligent automation.
