A British man has been detained in Cyprus on allegations of engaging in espionage and terror-related activities. Reports suggest that he may have conducted surveillance for Iran at the RAF Akrotiri base on the island. Local sources indicate that he is of Azerbaijani origin and has ties to Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
Following his appearance in a district court, he has been remanded in custody for an additional eight days. The Foreign Office has confirmed that it is liaising with Cypriot authorities regarding the case.
RAF Akrotiri serves as a crucial UK military installation in the area and has previously played a role in safeguarding Israeli airspace against potential threats from Iran.
