Prince Khalid bin Bandar is wrapping up his role as Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the UK after a successful six-year tenure, characterized by enhanced engagement and modernization in Saudi-UK relations. Following a Royal Decree issued last March, Prince Khalid will now serve as an advisor at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is expected to return to Riyadh shortly.

Since assuming his position in 2019, Prince Khalid has worked diligently to strengthen connections and redefine Saudi Arabia's image in political, economic, academic, and cultural spheres. His approach, known for its transparency, accessibility, and strategic vision, involved consistent outreach to political institutions and the wider British public.

In recognition of his efforts, Prince Khalid was named Diplomat of the Year for the Middle East and North Africa by Diplomat Magazine earlier this year. His tenure was marked by various initiatives, including the Great Futures event in Riyadh, which aimed to boost UK-Saudi engagement in trade, education, and public awareness of the Kingdom's transformation.

Throughout his time in the UK, Prince Khalid actively engaged with the media, universities, and parliamentarians to explain Saudi perspectives and shed light on the changes driven by Vision 2030. His dedication and diplomatic skills have been commended by various figures, including British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Neil Crompton and former UK ambassador to the Kingdom, Sir John Jenkins.

Prince Khalid's diplomatic efforts extended beyond politics to academia and community engagement. He fostered dialogue with British Muslim communities, students, and universities, such as Oxford and Durham, to promote shared values and understanding.

His impactful presence in the UK was recognized by Othman Al-Omeir, a veteran Saudi journalist, who praised Prince Khalid's deep understanding of British society and his positive influence. Dr. Najah Al-Osaimi, a trustee of the Saudi British Society, highlighted Prince Khalid's role in enhancing Saudi Arabia's presence in the UK's cultural, sports, and economic landscape.

Prince Khalid's emphasis on public diplomacy, transparency, and dialogue was evident in his interactions with British media, academic panels, and think tanks. He ensured that Saudi voices were well-represented, earning him praise from a wide range of diplomatic circles.

His efforts to strengthen ties with institutions like the Saudi British Society and the Saudi British Joint Business Council were also lauded. Roxana Mohammadian-Molina, deputy chair of the Saudi British Joint Business Council, expressed gratitude for Prince Khalid's support in advancing commercial and cultural relations between the two countries.
