The incident comes a day after another Indigo flight, headed to Madurai, flew back to Chennai after a mid-air snag.

An Indigo flight destined for Chennai had to make an emergency landing in Bengaluru after the pilot declared a 'fuel mayday'. The flight, operating as 6E-6764 from Guwahati to Chennai, took off at 4:40 pm and attempted to land in Chennai at 7:45 pm but had to abort due to low fuel. This prompted the pilot to issue a 'fuel mayday' alert, leading to a safe landing in Bengaluru at 8:15 pm with all 168 passengers evacuated without harm.

The incident has raised concerns about aviation safety, especially in the wake of the recent Air India flight crash near Ahmedabad airport. While Indigo has not released an official statement, sources within the airline revealed that the flight faced a fuel emergency after being unable to land in Chennai due to air traffic congestion.

According to a source from the airline company, 'Since the flight was denied clearance to land in Chennai due to congestion and was running low on fuel, the pilot followed protocol by declaring a fuel mayday. The aircraft was then diverted to Bengaluru, where the Air Traffic Control provided a priority landing, ensuring a safe touchdown at 8:15 pm. It's important to note that the pilot did not announce a general mayday, but specifically a fuel mayday, which has distinct implications.'
