The Tampa Bay Rays have announced the selection of right-hander Paul Gervase's contract from Triple-A. In a corresponding move, fellow righty Connor Seabold has been optioned to Triple-A Durham. This will mark Gervase's MLB debut if he gets the chance to play.

Gervase was drafted by the Mets in the 12th round of the 2022 draft and joined the Rays last summer in a trade for Tyler Zuber. Standing at an impressive 6-foot-10, Gervase struggled with control during his time with the Mets, walking 15.5% of batters faced. However, during his 15 appearances at Double-A Montgomery last August and September, he struck out 31 batters while walking only three, earning him an invitation to the Rays' big league spring training.

While it was unlikely for Gervase to make a direct jump from Double-A to the majors, his recent strong performances at Triple-A have caught the Rays' attention. After a shaky start, he has settled in well, striking out 43 batters and walking just three over his last 27 1/3 innings, boasting a 3.29 ERA and a 3.24 FIP during that time.

Gervase will now join the Tampa Bay bullpen, which currently leads the AL with a 3.11 ERA. He will aim to make a lasting impact with the team. On the other hand, Seabold, who was recalled on June 19 and delivered three scoreless innings against the Orioles, is seen more as a depth arm for bulk innings and has been sent back to Triple-A.
