Teen Tragically Dies While Swimming in Co Meath: School Pays Tribute

Tributes have been paid to a teenage boy who died while swimming near a Co Meath beach yesterday afternoon.

A teenage boy named Kofi Owusu (15) tragically died while swimming near Laytown Beach in Co Meath. He was with friends when he got into difficulty in the River Nanny. Kofi, from Blackrock, Dundalk, was a student and talented soccer player. His school, Coláiste Chú Chulainn, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

Another teen, Peter Byrne (17), also lost his life while swimming in the River Barrow in Co Carlow. In Co Dublin, four teenagers were injured in separate water incidents in Howth. The Irish Coast Guard issued a warning about water safety.

Kofi Owusu's body was recovered by the coastguard and taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan. Coláiste Chú Chulainn described Kofi as caring and dedicated, excelling in academics and sports. The school community, along with Redeemer Celtic FC where Kofi played, mourned his passing.

Local soccer club Laytown United FC postponed an event as a mark of respect. Tributes poured in from the Dundalk community. Meanwhile, Peter Byrne's funeral will take place in Co Carlow. The Howth RNLI crew was involved in cliff rescues off the coast of Howth, emphasizing the importance of water safety.
