French runner Lazzat holds off Satono Reve to deny Japan a first triumph at Royal Ascot.

French runner Lazzat managed to hold off Satono Reve, denying Japan a first victory at Royal Ascot. Jockey James Doyle rode the 9-2 winner, trained by Jerome Reynier. The winning owners Wathnan Racing celebrated a double victory on the day, with their third-placed horse Flora Of Bermuda also performing well. Earlier, they had won with Humidity in the Chesham Stakes.

The favorite, Satono Reve, was aiming to secure the first Japanese-trained win at the event after 12 previous unsuccessful attempts, but fell short by half a length. After crossing the finish line, Lazzat unseated his jockey and ran loose around the Ascot track before being caught.

Reynier expressed satisfaction with Doyle's performance, contrasting it with Flavien Prat's ride on Facteur Cheval, who finished sixth in the Prince of Wales's Stakes on Wednesday. Reynier criticized Prat's effort, calling it "perhaps the worst ride given to one of my horses."
