A tragic incident occurred in Brazil's southern state of Santa Catarina when a hot-air balloon caught fire and plummeted from the sky, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals, according to firefighters.

Video footage from local news outlet G1 captured the balloon engulfed in flames as it descended towards the ground in the municipality of Praia Grande.

Thirteen survivors were rushed to hospitals for treatment, as reported by Santa Catarina's military fire brigade, with a total of 21 individuals, including the pilot, on board during the accident.

Governor Jorginho Mello expressed his condolences, emphasizing the need for immediate response and support for the affected families.

Praia Grande is a popular spot for hot-air ballooning, especially during June festivities that honor Catholic saints like St. John in certain regions of Brazil's south.

Recently, another balloon crash in Sao Paulo state resulted in the death of a young woman and injuries to 11 others.
