Sri Lanka faced early setbacks in their chase, losing two quick wickets. Angelo Mathews, playing his final Test innings, provided some stability with a resilient knock of 8 runs. However, he fell to Taijul Islam, ending his Test career on a bittersweet note.
Despite losing a few more wickets, Sri Lanka managed to hold on for a draw, with Mendis and De Silva ensuring they saw out the day. The match ended in a stalemate, setting the stage for an exciting second Test in the series.
Najmul Hossain Shanto was named Player of the Match for his impressive twin centuries in the game.
