India vs England, 1st Test: Karun Nair got out for a duck on his return to the playing XI after eight years.  | Cricket

All eyes were on Karun Nair as he made his return to the Test playing XI after eight years. Unfortunately, the right-handed batter was dismissed for a duck on Day 2 of the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Ben Stokes sent him back to the dressing room after just four balls in the middle.

Nair attempted a cover drive off Stokes but mistimed it, leading to a spectacular catch by Ollie Pope. Sanjay Manjrekar commented that it was a risky shot to play early in the innings and suggested he should have approached the delivery differently.

Debutant Sai Sudharsan also fell after facing four balls, both batters dismissed by Stokes. Nair's selection for the series against England was based on his strong performances in domestic cricket, but his return was short-lived.

India, however, dominated the match with centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. Pant reached his seventh Test century on Day 2, while Gill fell short of 150, getting out for 147 to Shoaib Bashir.

Ben Stokes stood out as the most challenging bowler for the Indian team, consistently troubling their batters throughout the match.
