Delhi rains: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted that Delhi could see a thunderstorm later at night; with cloudy skies expected to persist over the next few days

Delhi experienced a sudden change in weather on Saturday afternoon as heavy rainfall hit various parts of the city, leading to a drop in temperatures.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Delhi could witness a thunderstorm later in the night, with the maximum temperature expected to be around 35°C.

Reports from news agencies showed heavy rains in RK Puram in southwest Delhi and other areas of the city.

IMD's weather forecast for Delhi predicts cloudy skies with moderate to light rains for the next 6-7 days, with no heatwave conditions expected.

IMD Weather Forecast for Delhi:

  • June 22-23: Cloudy skies, moderate to heavy rains, thunderstorm, lightning with gusty winds
  • June 24-27: Cloudy skies, light rains with thunderstorm, lightning

The weather observatory issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Konkan-Goa from June 21-26. An orange alert was also issued for eight states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.

Delhi's air quality was recorded as 'satisfactory' with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 82 as of 9 am on Saturday, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

The AQI scale ranges from zero to 500, with readings between zero and 50 considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
