A remarkable century by Rishabh Pant on the second day of the opening game in Leeds has reignited the debate on who is India's best-ever Test wicketkeeper-batter. Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes Pant has taken the lead in this discussion after scoring his seventh career ton and third in England. Pant's century helped India reach 471 in the first innings of the match.
During an interview with JioHotstar, Manjrekar praised Pant's performance, calling him the greatest Test batter-keeper India has ever seen. He expressed his admiration for Pant's ability to score big runs and his refreshing style of play. Manjrekar also pointed out that Pant has scored centuries in challenging conditions in countries like England, South Africa, and Australia.
Comparing Pant's centuries to those of MS Dhoni, Manjrekar noted that while Pant has excelled in various countries, Dhoni's centuries mostly came in Asia. This, according to Manjrekar, puts Pant ahead of the former captain in terms of Test performances.
Pant's latest century has made him the most successful wicketkeeper-batter for India, surpassing Dhoni's record of six Test hundreds.
