Shadow Home Affairs Minister, Andrew Hastie, expressed concerns about the potential failure of diplomacy in the Israel-Iran conflict. He suggested that the US might resort to striking Iran's nuclear facilities. Hastie emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution to prevent further escalation in the conflict.

He mentioned the possibility of Iran surrendering its nuclear program for inspection or facing destruction by Israel and the US. Hastie highlighted the ideological nature of the Iranian regime, which poses a threat to Israel. He also discussed the challenges faced by innocent civilians caught in the conflict.

Additionally, Hastie raised concerns about Australia's involvement in potential conflicts, emphasizing the need for transparency and clear communication with the public. He stressed the importance of operationalizing the alliance with the US while preserving Australia's national interests.

Regarding Israel's actions, Hastie noted the country's ongoing conflict with Iran's proxies and highlighted Iran's breaches of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. He refrained from commenting on Israel's compliance with international law, emphasizing the need to address the current situation realistically.

Defence Minister Richard Marles provided updates on the evacuation efforts for Australians in Iran and Israel. As of now, around 4,000 Australians are seeking assistance to leave both countries. The government is prepared to evacuate citizens once the airspace reopens.
