President Donald Trump announced on June 21 that US forces had conducted a 'very successful attack' on three Iranian nuclear sites, with the crown jewel of Tehran's program, Fordow, being destroyed.

This decision marks a significant escalation of the conflict as Trump joins Israel's military campaign against Iran after days of consideration.

Trump took to Truth Social to confirm the attack, stating that all planes returned safely and congratulating American forces for their efforts. He emphasized that a full payload of bombs was dropped on Fordow, declaring that the site is now 'gone' and urging Iran to end the war.

The president also announced plans for a televised Oval Office address at 10pm local time.

According to CBS News, diplomatic efforts were made to inform Iran that the strikes were the extent of US plans and that regime change was not on the agenda. US B-2 bombers were reportedly involved in the operation, capable of carrying the necessary massive bombs to target Fordow, which is located underground.

Israel, which has been engaged in aerial combat with Iran for over a week, expressed full coordination with the US on the attack. The ongoing conflict has seen casualties in both nations, with Israel justifying its actions as a means to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Despite diplomatic attempts to halt hostilities, the situation has continued to escalate, prompting calls for peace from President Trump.

Israeli military officials confirmed additional strikes in southwestern Iran, targeting multiple military sites. The conflict has resulted in hundreds of casualties on both sides, with Iran reporting over 400 deaths and thousands of injuries, while Israel has seen 24 civilians killed and hundreds injured.

With tensions running high, the situation remains fluid as the international community watches closely for further developments.
